Hello
This week, we have been uploading a whole selection of frames onto the website. Amongst these are several ladies’ and gents’ frames made by Austrian spectacle makers, Silhouette.
Silhouette was set up in Linz in Austria in1964 by husband and wife team, Arnold and Anneliese Schmied. It is heartening to know that the company is going from strength to strength and still owned by the Schmied family. The Schmied’s intention was to make desirable, high quality stylish eyewear which they have been doing incredibly successfully for sixty years.
They are excellent at manufacturing spectacles and catching the zeitgeist, with their catchy marketing slogan, ‘For me it must be a Silhouette.’ Their instantly recognisable, sophisticated Silhouette signature adorns all their frames and products and is , synonymous with quality and style. Over the years, Silhouette frames have graced many famous faces, including Elton John’s, Lady Gaga’s and the late Queen Elizabeth’s, even Barbie, that epitome of glamour, had her own custom made pair in 1994 for an exhibition in New York. Silhouette has also supplied 73 of Nasa’s astronauts (so far) with spectacles as in 2004, they launched a series of frames named ‘Titan Minimal Art’ spectacles which were rimless and incredibly light weight, ideal for zero gravity!
In more down to earth matters, Silhouette also produce promotional merchandise and we are fortunate to own some, including a necklace, large earrings and two brooches made of acetate and all decorated with the Silhouette logo. We have a very stylish scarf, a bottle of champagne ( no we haven’t risked opening it!). In our collection, we also have a selection of frame catalogues from the 1980s. This got Dead Man reminiscing, as he remembers dispensing Silhouette frames to his patients when he was a fresh faced lad just out of college in the 1980s!
We are pleased to say that we enjoy stocking such a classically stylish brand and have a selection of both ladies and gents Silhouette frames to choose from on our website.
Have a good week. Claire AKA Mrs Deadman
